Sevilla came from a goal down to draw 1-1 in the Seville derby in La Liga on Sunday night.
The spotlight, however, was on Real Betis playmaker Isco, who was returning to face his former side in one of Europe’s finest derbies.
“Isco, die,” was the ugly chant coming from a section of the Gol Norte to welcome the player from Málaga back to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
The Betis No. 22 missed a clear goal-scoring chance in the first minute of the game, but he improved after that and was the best player on the pitch in the Andalusian capital.
He was involved in Betis’ attacking moves and sent the cross into the box for Ayoze Pérez to score the opener on the night to send the 500 away fans wild.
Only Ivan Rakitic’s superb equaliser from distance later deprived the Malagueño of a perfect return to Sevilla FC.
Sunday’s game was the ninth time Isco picked up the Man of the Match award this season, in what has been a sensational return to regular football after a disappointing short spell at Sevilla.
