Over the past few weeks, it has been heavily reported that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in luring former Liverpool and Schalke 04 defender Joël Matip to the BayArena.
This is because the 32-year-old meets the criteria that Die Werkself expects from one of their defenders.
With Jonathan Tah’s possible move to Bayern Munich looking more likely than it ever has, the German champions will be hoping to replace the outgoing defender before the new Bundesliga season begins in just under two weeks.
However, as reported by Florian Plettenberg, Matip does have a number of other clubs looking to secure his signature this summer, and talks with them are just as advanced as they are with Leverkusen.
Nevertheless, the 32-year-old has had positive conversations with Die Werkself, and he can imagine joining the club this summer.
While there is no total verbal agreement as of yet, the former Cameroonian international can sign a contract until 2026.
A deal is not yet completed, but there is a high chance that Matip could make a return to the Bundesliga.
