Tottenham Hotspur target Mohamed Simakan could ‘really elevate’ the capital club should he make the switch, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Simakan has caught the eye since joining RB Leipzig from RC Strasbourg for €17 million (£14.8m) back in July 2021 and has been linked with a move to some of Europe’s top clubs as a result.
What is the latest news involving Simakan?
Speaking in an interview with WettFreunde over the summer, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tottenham ‘have been watching’ Simakan’s development ‘for a long time.
“I can tell you that one of the players you have been watching for a long time is RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan,” Romano said.
“Another player they hold in high esteem is (Josko) Gvardiol. Those are two players they really like, but it depends on the price. We know how difficult it is to negotiate with Leipzig.”
Recent reports have claimed that Chelsea and reigning Serie A champions AC Milan have also joined the race for Simakan’s signature, though, meaning Spurs are likely to face stiff competition.
What has Jones said about Simakan?
Jones believes the speculation surrounding Simakan is ‘really intriguing’ and reckons the rumours over his future could become a ‘real talking point’ over the coming months.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Simakan is, I think, a really intriguing one. I think he’s a player that if you could actually get him out, then he could actually really elevate this team.
“And he’d be a really interesting player to have in the Premier League too, so I can see that one becoming a real talking point.”
Would Simakan be a good signing?
Simakan has gone from strength to strength at the Red Bull Arena, establishing himself as a key player for the Bundesliga outfit by registering nine goal contributions in 59 appearances.
The versatile centre-back has also ranked in the 99th percentile for progressive passes received, 96th for completed dribbles, 92nd for shot-creating actions, and 89th for touches in the attacking penalty area and tackles amongst his positional peers over the last year.
Simakan played a pivotal role in Leipzig claiming their maiden DFB-Pokal crown in 2021/22 and appears to be ready to take the next step in his promising career.
It remains to be seen if Tottenham revive their interest in the Frenchman, though, or if other continental heavyweights outmuscle them in this particular battle.
