Inter Milan have found a breakthrough in their pursuit of Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi after striking an agreement in principle over his transfer.
According to a report from Sky Sport Italia, At a rendezvous with Sassuolo delegates on Tuesday, Inter managed to get the green light for Frattesi’s transfer, thus moving to the forefront in the transfer race, which also features Juventus and AS Roma.
However, the report adds that the Champions League runners-up need player exits from their side to sanction a move for the Italian midfielder.
It is understood that Inter have proposed a player plus cash deal, with Samuele Mulattieri – currently on loan at Frosinone – being offered to Neroverdi.
Frattesi is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Serie A, and his impressive development has also seen him linked with Premier League giants Manchester United.
The 23-year-old has been trying to force out a move from his current employers for a top club in Europe for a long time.
AS Roma had appeared to be his next destination last summer before the capital giants were put off by Neroverdi’s price tag.
Frattesi recently stated that he would prefer moving to another Serie A club as his next step.
Nerazzurri manager Simone Inzaghi has identified Frattesi as a top reinforcement who can be integral to his plans.
Another handpicked option for Inzaghi is his former protégé and Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Serbian midfielder has also been tipped for a move to an elite club for a long time after years of continued brilliance with Biancocelesti.
However, he could be finally on the move this summer, with his contract expiring in 12 months, and he has decided against penning a new deal.
Juve are also in the mix, but Inter are reportedly in constant contact with his representative, while Milinkovic-Savic is also open to reuniting with Inzaghi.
