Inter Milan have set their sights on Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi, confirmed by his agent Seraino Dalgliesh.
Doekhi was picked up on a free transfer last summer and has proved to be one of the bargains for Union Berlin, playing a pivotal role in their prospective top-four finish this season.
The 24-year-old has racked up 20 league appearances, producing a string of impressive performances to help his side sit third in the league table, only five points off the leaders Borussia Dortmund.
The towering defender’s goal threat and ball progression are his major attributes apart from his defensive skills.
With only two years left in his contract until 2025, the former Jong Ajax star has been subject to interest from Europe’s top clubs.
Speaking to SempreInter, Dalgliesh revealed that Inter and Napoli are monitoring his client in addition to clubs in the Bundesliga and Premier League.
“Danilho has two years left on his contract,” said Doekhi’s agent. “I can’t reveal any other details about his contract. But it is true that Inter and Napoli, just like other top clubs in Europe, including in the Bundesliga and the Premier League, are all looking at him.
“This is not a surprise because there are no other centre-backs in Europe who score this amount of goals in combination with his defensive pedigree.
“But there are no negotiations going on right now. Danilho is focused on his season with FC Union Berlin and qualifying for the Champions League next season.”
Inter are actively looking for defensive reinforcements this summer due to the expected departure of Milan Skriniar.
The Slovak centre-back, who has been ruled out of the season following back surgery, has an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over a free transfer.
The Nerazzurri are also working on contract extensions of the defensive duo Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni.
Besides Doekhi, Inter have lined up Atalanta’s defensive pair Giorgio Scalvini and Merih Demiral as potential targets for the summer.
