Here’s what Bayer Leverkusen’s new signing had to say in his first interview at the club.
Upon his arrival at the BayArena for the official announcement of his signature, Lucas Vázquez highlighted his delight at joining Bayer Leverkusen.
“I am very happy to have joined this great club. I am happy and excited about everything I see,” he said, in an interview with Leverkusen’s social media accounts.
“I think it’s because of the tradition of this club, because of the city, the experience of living here for me and my family, and the sporting project. Of course, that’s very motivating.
“I’m joining the team to help, to do my part, to try to bring this experience to bear so that both young players and all of us together can form a great team and play a great season,” he added.
The 34-year-old full-back also revealed that he was in contact with Leverkusen’s former coach Xabi Alonso and Dani Carvajal who gave him some inside information on the club.
“Yes, I spoke to [Xabi Alonso] beforehand. He told me a lot of good things about the club and the organization, the team, everything surrounding Leverkusen, and I’m really excited.
“Dani [Carvajal] was here 12-13 years ago and highly recommended the club. I’m very happy to be here, and I’m also grateful to Xabi for his help,” Vázquez explained.
