Ilkay Gündoğan ahead of Champions League finals: “Inter didn’t get to the finals by chance”

Following Manchester City’s 2-1 victory in the FA Cup final over cross-city rivals Manchester United, central midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan provided his perspective of the upcoming Champions League final against Inter.

The skipper played a vital role in obtaining the domestic trophy as he scored a brace to sink Ten Hag’s men at the Wembley Stadium. With Pep Guardiolia’s side having now clinched both the Premier League and the FA Cup, City are a step away from obtaining the almighty treble for the first time within their club’s history.

However, as the German international pointed out in his post-match interview, as relayed by FcInternews, winning against the Nerazzurri is not as simple as it may sound as Inzaghi’s side enter this match full of confidence as they recently won the Coppa Italia against Fiorentina and have triumphed the Rossonerri in a two-legged affair in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Gündoğan stated about Inter: “They didn’t get to the final by chance. This team has great qualities, even if it wasn’t enough to win the league this year. But they just won the national cup. This is a team that knows how to win trophies. They are very aggressive in how they play. They may be more defensively focused, but they also have excellent attacking qualities.

“They’re a very stable team. They don’t usually concede many goals, so it won’t be easy. We know they’ll probably be happy to let us have the ball, and it will be up to us to make the most of the opportunities. We will need to pay attention to counter-attacks, we have to be very vigilant. Especially in the final, anything can happen. So we have to be very concentrated”.
