Ibrahima Konaté hopes Khéphren Thuram will join him at Liverpool

It will be a busy summer on the French Riviera, with numerous rumours surrounding the departure of OGC Nice midfielder, Khéphren Thuram. The biggest one so far sends him to Merseyside, with Liverpool putting the Frenchman high on their shortlist to revamp their midfield options.

However, it seems it is not just the media getting involved in this transfer rumour. Having been invited onto Jérôme Rothen’s radio show on RMC this evening, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté expressed his desire to see Thuram join him at Anfield.

“Khéphren, he’s like a younger brother, he’s someone I saw grow (…) I was with his older brother at academy level. I saw him perform well and progress greatly… it was incredible. Even when he came to join the French national team for his first cap. I saw him in training and I was really surprised by his height and his technical ability”.

Having been capped once for France, with a game against the Netherlands back in March, Thuram has been progressively improving over the past few months. With his brother Marcus, who was involved in the World Cup squad, he was chaperoned by their father, ex-French international and World Cup winner, Lillian Thuram.

The Liverpool centre-back adds that he would be “very happy to see him join Liverpool, I would take him under my wing and I will do everything to help him progress (…) Now it’s his turn to work. But I’ll do everything for him to become a top player”.

The Reds have already acquired Argentinian midfield Alexis Mac Allister, but Thuram would certainly help the Reds bolster their chances of regaining their previous status amongst the Premier League’s elite and challenge for better things next season.
