Hugo Lloris out until the end of the season for Tottenham with injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s interim manager, Ryan Mason, has confirmed that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (36) will miss the remainder of the season due to a hip injury. Speaking at a press conference transcribed by BBC Sport, Mason expressed his disappointment at the news: “Hugo is out for the season, we’ve had the results back. Obviously it’s disappointing. We feared that initially and now we’ve had the results back.”

When asked whether Lloris has played his last game for the club, Mason refrained from speculation about next season: “I can’t speak about next season. What I can say is he’s got a very important role for us until the end of the season. He’s our captain and we need him. We need him to be a big part of the group and I’m sure he will be.”

Lloris announced his retirement from international football in January, shortly after France’s World Cup final defeat against Argentina, ending a spell with Les Bleus that spanned 14 years. Meanwhile, the Frenchman has already been absent this season for Tottenham – he was recently taken off in the 5-0 routing by Newcastle at half-time due to what then-interim manager Cristian Stellini cited as a “muscle problem”.
