Milan are set to lose out on an enormous amount of prize money if they cannot progress to the knockouts of the Champions League.
According to a report by Sky Italia, Milan’s underwhelming campaign in the Champions League this season have only led them to earn €60 million till now. This figure is far less than the estimated amount after assessing last season’s performances. While the Rossoneri still have a chance to make the knockouts tonight by defeating Newcastle United and depending on results elsewhere, a defeat would put them out of the Europa League qualification spot.
Stefano Pioli’s side earned sizeable prize money of €127 million last campaign after progressing to the semi-finals of the European competition, ultimately losing out to neighbourhood rivals Inter.
There is a possibility that Milan drop to the Europa League and even if they win the competition, they will only be able to receive €25 million, adding up all the figures related to participation, win bonuses and other factors.
