Serie A side Napoli were keen on signing Dan Ndoye from Bologna in the summer transfer window but the winger ended up joining Nottingham Forest.
The English were certainly blessed with more financial resources to land the Switzerland international but it seems like Antonio Conte’s decision also played a key role in his future.
Il Mattino, via AreaNapoli, provide some background and reveal that Napoli held talks with Bologna for weeks for Ndoye. Conte was a big fan of the player and wanted him in Naples.
The deal, they claim, fell through because of the Italian. Conte himself vetoed the transfer late in the saga after it emerged that Bologna wanted a fee of €45 million to sell the winger.
When it comes to Ndoye, the manager informed Napoli to ‘leave him alone’ and this led to Nottingham Forest swooping in decisively and signing him.
So far, the winger has a goal and an assist in the Premier League.
