Two sources, including France’s L’Équipe, report that Germany’s Kraichgauer are interested in bringing Racing Straßburg defender Alexander Djiku across the border. The 27-year-old center-halve was able to increase his market value to an estimated €10 million last year following a stellar club campaign.
The Montepelier-born defender represents Ghana internationally. Djiku was one of the lone bright spots of the country’s disappointing AFCON campaign, scoring a goal in the final group stage match against the Comoros. Being a stellar part of the Black Star’s subsequent qualification for the coming World Cup, he was awarded Ghanian Footballer of the Year honors by the country’s FA.
Both L’Équipe and online portal Foot Mercato do report that Hoffenheim will face competition for the player from FC Sevilla. The short distance from Alsace to Sinsheim may nevertheless leave the German club with an advantage. Djiku, in the final year of is contract, would not necessarily have to uproot. Strasbourg and Sinsheim lie only 90 minutes apart.
