Fredi Bobic’s search for an extra central defender has, as initially reported by Sky Germany earlier in the week, led to Argentina. Now Germany’s main sporting tabloid and Argentine broadcaster TyC are also confirming that Hertha BSC have Uruguayan youth international Agustin Rogel in their sights.
The towering 24-year-old right-footer currently plays for Club Estudiantes de La Plata. After helping the Uruguayan U20 side win the youth continental championship in 2017, Rogel spent a season in Russia and also had an ill-fated stint with Toulouse FC in the French Ligue 2. He returned to Latin America in 2021.
Despite difficulty breaking into then European scene, Rogel maintains a €4.5 million estimated market worth in the latest transfermarkt listings. He pumped up his worth by about €2 million after scoring seven goals and chipping in an assist in 37 appearances across all competitions last season.
