As reported by Sky Germany, Hertha Berlin are looking to sign Diego Demme from Napoli.
After relegation from the Bundesliga was confirmed last Saturday due to their 1-1 draw at home to Bochum, Hertha have began preparing for life in the 2. Bundesliga. Demme is reported to be in Berlin after committing to the capital clubs rebuild project.
Since Demme moved to Naples in January 2020, he has been able to win the Copa Italia, as well as a Serie A title. However, he has been limited to just 140 minutes of football this term, meaning that a departure from the Italian champions is definite.
A move to Germany would certainly not be anything new to Demme. The former RB Leipzig captain was able to guide Die Roten Bullen from the 3. Liga to the Bundesliga where he would earn a single national team call-up in 2017.
Nevertheless, a move to the Old Lady is dependent on what division Hertha will find themselves in next season. After the DFL refused to hand Hertha a licence amid their relegation to Germany’s second tier, they are unable to act in the transfer market, but the capital club are ‘confident’ in eventually receiving their license.
