After missing out on Sebastian Szymański to Feyenoord, Hertha Berlin are continuing to work on a deal to sign Jean-Paul Boëtius (28) on a free transfer, according to Kicker.
The Dutchman is currently training with Feyenoord, a former club, to keep his fitness up after his contract expired with Mainz last month. Hertha head coach Sandro Schwarz knows Boëtius from their time together at Mainz – Boëtius played 42 games under the German, scoring six and creating 10.
Boëtius played 33 Bundesliga games under Bo Svensson last season, scoring two and creating four, but decided against a contract extension after four years at M05. Newly-promoted Bundesliga side Werder Bremen also enquired about signing Boëtius.
Hertha Berlin are looking to strengthen their attack. Chidera Ejuke (24) arrived at the Bundesliga club from CSKA Moscow earlier this month but are still looking to reinforce their wide areas following the departure of Javairô Dilrosun to Feyenoord after a season on loan at Bordeaux.
The capital club are also open to selling players such as Krzysztof Piątek to raise funds.
