‘He knows why I didn’t come to Paris’ – Marcus Thuram tells Kylian Mbappé why he chose not to join PSG

Responding to a question from France teammate Kylian Mbappé (24), Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram (26) has revealed why he chose not to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. 

With his contract at Borussia Mönchengladbach expiring, Thuram had a choice to make last summer. His performances for club and country attracted plenty of interest, including from PSG, who were reportedly keen to repatriate the Frenchman. However, he ultimately joined Inter Milan, signing a five-year deal with th Serie A club, who currently sit top of Serie A.

‘Inter Milan were in for me two years ago’ – Thuram

In an interview with Canal PlusThuram was asked by international teammate Mbappé why he didn’t make the switch to the Parc des Princes. “He know full well why I didn’t come to Paris,” responded Thuram with a big smile. Asked specifically about his choice to instead join Inter Milan, the former Mönchengladbach forward revealed that the Italian club’s long-term interest was a crucial factor.

I never asked for game time guarantees. I don’t think that exists. If you go to a club, it is to impose yourself, or not. No, it was simply a question of feeling. Inter Milan were in for me two years ago and have always seen me as a No.9,” responded the France international (16 caps, two goals). 

As well as leading Serie A by two points from Juventus, the Nerrazzurri have also already secured their qualification for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages.
