Harry Kane will make his Champions League debut for Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena tomorrow against his once-aspired destination, Manchester United.

This high-profile clash comes following Kane’s sensational move to the Bundesliga giants from Tottenham Hotspur for £100 million.

According to the Daily Mail, Kane wanted to join Manchester United before the Bayern move. The England international striker would willingly have fulfilled his final year at Spurs.

However, United struggled to meet the financial demands of the transfer fee and wages for the 30-year-old during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils abandoned their pursuit of Kane, who was United manager Erik ten Hag’s top target.

Ten Hag pivoted towards youth and affordability and chose Rasmus Hojlund as an alternative to Kane.

This move convinced Kane that his dream of donning the United colours this year or next had evaporated.

Within a week of Hojlund’s £72m signing, Kane opted to join Bayern.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was initially reluctant to lose the star striker, especially to a Premier League rival like United.

He was also under immense pressure from owner Joe Lewis to cash in on Kane this summer. Lewis wanted to avoid him leaving on a free transfer in 2024.

Kane was ready to defy Spurs’ wishes and bide his time for another 12 months if he believed that United would keep their door open for him.

He has started his season well, notching four goals and one assist in five matches for Die Rekordmeister.

Kane will have a chance to show United what they are missing when they square off tomorrow for the opportunity to establish early dominance in Group A.
