Speaking ahead of Germany’s against England, Hansi Flick has defended Gareth Southgate who has been criticised after the Three Lions were relegated in the UEFA Nations League following a 1-0 defeat against Italy.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and the England squad is excellent too,” said Flick. “Especially in the summer, after a long season, there was a phase when the team just wasn’t fresh anymore.
“If things don’t go well, coaches are quickly criticised. Despite this, Gareth Southgate is one of the most successful coaches in England’s history and they have a great team. We need a top performance.”
In other news, Flick has confirmed that Jamal Musiala (19) will start against England whilst Marc-André ter Stegen is likely to keep his place in goal. Die Mannschaft are also without Lukas Nmecha and Antonio Rüdiger.
Flick has also asked for a performance following their 1-0 defeat against Hungary on Friday.
