Hansi Flick could be relieved of his duties with poor results against Japan and France

SportBild reports that Hansi Flick could be fired as Germany’s national team head coach if the team has poor results against Japan and France in September. 

After Germany’s poor World Cup showing where they were eliminated at the group stages as well as poor showing in friendlies since only winning one of five, Flick faces his last chance in September with Germany set to host the European Championship nine months later.

Germany currently possesses a lack of quality defenders, especially in wide areas, and a world-class striker. These are areas that have proven to be of weakness to Germany for a while now. While Flick has at times snubbed young talent to show loyalty to players who may not deserve to be called up to the national team due to their form.

The aim of sporting director Rudi Völler will be to make sure that the best possible players have the best possible coach to achieve the highest aim at Germany’s home Euros. 

Völler has continued to defend Flick throughout this tough period but that could change. Völler is set to receive an additional sporting director to help him with decision-making. It is reported that Sami Khedira is the favourite to take over the role and eventually replace Völler, while Per Mertesacker is also in contention.
