Girona sporting director Quique Carcel has, on Saturday, spoken out over the alleged interest of La Liga rivals Barcelona in the services of youngster Sávio.
Sávio has proven one of the star performers of Girona’s stunning campaign to date.
Girona currently sit pretty atop the Spanish top flight, two points clear of Real Madrid, and four ahead of the aforementioned Barca.
And Sávio, for his part, has featured from the off in all 13 of the club’s outings, racking up an impressive four goals and four assists in the process.
Such impressive form, in turn, has seen the 19-year-old inevitably begin to pique attentions across Spain.
One such club touted with an interest in Sávio’s services comes in the form of Barcelona, with recent media speculation having pointed towards the Camp Nou as a potential future landing spot for the attacker.
If the latest comments on the part of Girona chief Quique Carcel are anything to go by, however, then such a move will not be forthcoming any time soon.
Speaking in an interview with Mundo Deportivo on Saturday, Carcel, first, confirmed that he is proud to hear of Barca chief Deco keeping a close eye on Sávio’s progress.
From here, though, he went on to add that Girona firmly intend to keep hold of the Brazilian, who belongs to Manchester City:
“To be told that Deco likes one of your players is nice and fills you with pride. It already happened to us last season with Oriol Romeu, but our goal is to retain these players because changing the entire squad is difficult.”
