Already ruled out of Julian Nagelsmann’s debut match as German Bundestrainer, German national team midfielder Joshua Kimmich will remain unavailable to Nagelsmann against Mexico on Tuesday night as well. The German FA confirmed that Kimmich – grappling with the effects of a flu-like infection – was headed back to Munich on Saturday to continue his recovery in Germany.
Nagelsmann’s starting XI in the Saturday exhibition against the United States featured Ilkay Gündogan and Pascal Groß paired together in midfield. Kimmich’s Bayern teammate Leon Goretzka – recalled to the team by the newly appointed Nagelsmann – began the game on the bench. Bayern face FSV Mainz 05 next Saturday at the MEWE Arena when Bundesliga play resumes.
