As had been rumored for some time, German youth international Marcel Wenig of Eintracht Frankfurt will receive a developmental loan-out in order to further hone his skills during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign. Second division side 1. FC Nürnberg confirmed that the 19-year-old will spend the spring in middle Franconia on Monday. Wenig made one brief relief appearance with the SGE senior team last season.
Nürnberg and Eintracht thus concluded their second mutual piece of business in the current January transfer window. FCN left-back Nathaniel Brown will be moving to the Adlerträger this summer. Wenig – a Nürnberg native who also once worked in the Bayern youth academy – will have the opportunity to join his original academy club permanently if Nürnberg opt to activate a purchase option.
“I really wanted to seize the opportunity to come to ‘der Club’,” Wenig noted in a statement released at his unveiling, “This step is something very special. Now it’s time for me to present myself and step on the gas pedal.”
“Marcel is a Nuremberg native who doesn’t need a long acclimatization period,” FCN sporting director Olaf Rebbe added, “He now has the chance to prove himself with us. We are delighted that he will be joining us.”
