Francis Ngannou is plotting a sensational return to the boxing ring as the ‘Predator’ revealed his next move in combat sports.
The Professional Fighters League MMA heavyweight returned to the cage for an extraordinary knockout win over the former PFL champion Renan Ferreira in Riyadh on the 19th of October 2024. It was a particularly emotional win for Ngannou as it was his first since the passing of his young son, Kobe. Ngannou, a former UFC champ, dedicated the win to Kobe’s memory.
Now, it appears as if he’s weighed up his options — whether to stay in PFL for another MMA fight, or seek a big-money boxing opponent. And he has his eyes on a massive name in boxing. Considering form and current ability, it’s a boxing match that he could win.

Powerful heavyweight eyes sensational return to the boxing ring
Speakin to Sportsbook Review, Ngannou confirmed: “I will do boxing next.”
“I want to,” he said. “I’m not done with boxing. It’s not the MMA is easy. It’s the sport that I understand better and I have more experience in, but I say go for boxing.”
Ngannou fought twice in pro boxing before — with both contests taking place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. His first match was against Tyson Fury, and though he lost by split decision after 10 rounds, he shook up the entire combat sports world by dropping Fury in the middle of the fight. The performance was enough to lure Anthony Joshua into a big fight just five months later, in March 2024, but the British heavyweight obliterated Ngannou within two rounds.
Considering Wilder has fought in Riyadh, and has a working relationship with Turki Alalshikh — like Ngannou — it suggests a fight between them could, possibly, be straight-forward to make. Ngannou said he likes the contest because it pits two of the most thunderous punchers in all combat sport against one another.
“Deontay Wilder is known as a guy that knocks everybody out or tries to knock you out,” said Ngannou. “I’m going against that guy, and I myself can knock someone out.”
“Deep inside me there is a little bit of ego, like I know I hit harder.”
He continued: “I’m saying from my experience that we will have that ego that we both want to prove ‘no, it’s me.’ ‘Who is the biggest hitter between you and Deontay?’ Those sorts of conversations are popping around a little bit, and even though you think you don’t care about it, it sticks somewhere in your mind.”
