Jorge Molina has retired from football at the age of 41. After 634 matches, 240 goals and 19 seasons, the veteran striker has decided to put an end to his career and has joined Paco López’s coaching staff at Granada, report Marca.
Through hard work, perseverance and a hunger in the box, the Alicante-born striker made his way from Spain’s third tier to the top flight.
At Real Betis, Molina scored goals and for six seasons was one of the main players at the Benito Villamarín. The striker played 211 games for Betis, scoring 77 goals.
Molina left Seville to embark on a new adventure south of the capital with Getafe, where he scored 20 goals in the 2016-17 season.
After a serious injury and months on the sidelines, Granada’s decision not to extend his stay with the first team and offer him a place on Paco López’s staff made him rethink the situation and bring his career to a close.
Molina retires as the oldest Spanish goalscorer in European competition, the oldest player to score in the Copa del Rey and the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the top five European leagues.
