A former member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona, in Eric Abidal, has on Monday taken to social media, to deny shock claims that he had passed away.
Frenchman Abidal for his part saw his name take its place centre stage online early this week.
As much came after a grim string of rumours surfaced on ‘X’, claiming that the 46-year-old had died.
The rumours in question cited Abidal’s past battle with cancer to justify their claims.
Thankfully, however, the ex-France international has since moved to definitively deny his passing.
In a post on his official Instagram account, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Abidal wrote:
“Some rumors should never exist. I am here, with my family, and everything is fine. Respect is fundamental. I have a family and my children behind me. To be clear, I am fine, I am alive and well. Thank you for your support and your messages of concern. Let’s focus on what really matters.”
