Feyenoord schedule crisis talks as Arne Slot eyes Tottenham job

Tottenham Hotspur’s bid to make Feyenoord boss Arne Slot their new chief of staff in the summer could face a critical moment on Wednesday.

As reported by The Times, there’s a scheduled meeting between the Dutchman manager and the newly-crowned Eredivisie champions’ lawyer to clarify his stance on Spurs’ interest.

Despite ending Feyenoord’s six-year title drought in the Dutch championship this term and guiding them to last season’s Europa Conference League final, Slot seems unwilling to continue with the Rotterdam outfit.

He turned down Leeds United’s approach last February to pledge his allegiance to the club, but the temptation of taking a job at Tottenham appears too big to resist.

While the 44-year-old seemingly has his heart set on joining the struggling Premier League giants, De Stadionclub are desperate to convince their manager to adhere to his contract at De Kuip.

Slot has two more years left to run on his deal in Rotterdam, which could prove a sticking point if he decides to force his summer exit.

It’s understood Feyenoord could ask for a compensation fee in the region of £12 million to let their tactician take over the managerial reins at Tottenham.

During his relatively short managerial career, Slot has become one of the most highly-rated coaches in the Eredivisie, making a name for himself at AZ Alkmaar before moving to De Kuip in 2021.

After ruling Julian Nagelsmann out of contention for the job earlier in May, Spurs have identified the Dutchman as their number one option to replace interim boss Ryan Mason.

However, Tottenham may not be able to bring European football to the table next season after falling one point behind seventh-placed Aston Villa on the back of two straight league losses.

By contrast, Feyenoord will compete in the 2023/24 Champions League as the Eredivisie champions, casting some doubt on Slot’s decision to leave his homeland for London.
