Sporting Lisbon are close to signing Almeria forward Luis Suarez as they prepare for Viktor Gyokeres’ departure to Arsenal, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The Portuguese club have reportedly accelerated talks for Suarez in recent hours and are close to reaching an agreement for the striker to join, with final details to be sorted this week.
Suarez is set to arrive as a replacement for Gyokeres, who is expected to complete a move to Arsenal despite lengthy negotiations between the two clubs.
The £69m-rated Swedish international is said to have agreed a five-year contract with the Gunners and is now awaiting the final agreement over the structure of the deal before travelling for a medical.

Romano, writing on X, has revealed that Sporting are now close to signing Almeria’s Suarez, after talks accelerated between clubs in recent hours:
Suarez, who joined Almeria from Marseille in 2023, impressed in the second tier of Spanish football last term, scoring 27 goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances.
He helped Almeria finish sixth in the table and ended the season as La Liga 2’s top scorer, while also netting four goals in the Copa del Rey, including a third-round hat-trick against Sevilla.
Sporting are now set to lose one of Europe’s most prolific strikers in Gyokeres, who netted a staggering 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese club.
The Sweden international led Sporting to a league and cup double last season and made his Champions League debut, scoring six times in eight appearances.
