£60m star ‘now looking to stay’ at St James’ Park

‘Extraordinary’ 73-goal talisman ‘would be a star’ at St James’ Park

Newcastle United would be able to offer James Maddison a ‘good number of games’ if he were to move to St James’ Park from Leicester City, and would likely ‘become a star’ for the club, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Eddie Howe was handed more than £100 million to bolster his first-team squad in the North East but further investment could soon be made.

What is the latest on Maddison?

Newcastle pushed hard to sign the 25-year-old during the summer transfer window and had multiple bids rejected for his services, according to The Guardian.

The report says that the largest of the offers turned down by the Foxes was £50 million, with the East Midlands outfit seeking £60 million.

However, Newcastle are not giving up on Maddison – who cost Leicester £20 million back in 2018 – as Football Insider report a January bid could be in the offing.

The Magpies are hopeful his price will have fallen since the summer, with the one-cap England international set to have 18 months left on his contract at the start of 2023.

Premier League and Newcastle United all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer is a true legend of the game, but when did he leave their club?

What has Jones said on Maddison?

Jones believes that Maddison would not face much competition if he were to move to St James’ Park at the turn of the year.

The journalist adds that the player could easily become the main man with Newcastle due to the opportunities he would get.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “In terms of competition to get in the squad and the team, he’s going to get a good number of games and the likelihood is he would become a star of that team.”

Would Maddison be a good signing?

Now into his fifth season in the Premier League, the attacking-midfielder has emphatically proven himself in the top flight.

In 142 appearances in the competition, he has found the net 38 times and assisted 27 more, taking his goals tally as a professional footballer to 73.

Having likely not hit his prime yet, either, Maddison – who has previously been described as ‘extraordinary’ – would be a very exciting signing at this stage of their development as a club.
