Everton ‘will do very well’ to sign £15m star at Goodison Park

Everton ‘will do very well’ to sign Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus due to his recent performance levels, according to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park in the previous transfer window but ended up staying put in Amsterdam and has continued to shine.

What is the latest news involving Kudus?

Last month, The Independent revealed that Everton made a last-minute £15 million offer for Kudus, which was swiftly rejected by Ajax as they had already offloaded a host of first-team stars.

Key players such as Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Ryan Gravenberch and Sebastien Haller had already departed the Johan Cruijff ArenA, and the reigning Dutch champions were determined to keep hold of Kudus.

However, the Ghana international did admit in a subsequent interview that he was interested in joining Everton as he was fed up with sitting on the bench at Ajax.

“Everton offered me a great opportunity and I wanted to try it,” Kudus recalled to Dutch outlet NOS. “No footballer wants to sit on the bench and neither do I.”

Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has since made the creative talent a key part of his plans, though, meaning the Toffees may no longer be as appealing as they once were.

What has Aarons said about Kudus?

Despite the changes on and off the pitch over the summer, Ajax has continued to excel domestically and are sitting pretty at the top of the Eredivisie standings.

And Aarons has informed GiveMeSport that he believes Kudus is ‘destined for a club higher up the table’ than Everton.

He said: “I think Everton will do very well to get him, I’d suggest, in the future because he’s got five goals in eleven league games for Ajax so far this season. And I think he’s probably destined for a club higher up the table eventually.”

How well is Kudus playing this season?

In his 17 appearances across all competitions for Ajax, Kudus has registered an impressive nine goals and one assist, with three of those strikes coming in the Champions League.

Recent reports from Sky Germany have claimed that the youngster’s performances have attracted the attention of Borussia Dortmund, and when looking at his underlying numbers, it’s easy to understand why.

As per FBref, Kudus has ranked in the 99th percentile for non-penalty expected goals, total shots, completed dribbles, touches in the attacking penalty area and progressive passes received amongst his positional peers over the last year.

It’s clear that Kudus has taken his game to new heights in recent months, and Everton may be forced to focus their attention elsewhere.
