Everton are unlikely to sign Spanish midfielder Isco on a free transfer, according to the Independent.
The Toffees reportedly considered a move for the former Real Madrid star. But they are said to have concerns whether the 30-year-old has the physical profile needed to thrive in the English top-flight.
Isco has been a free agent since mutually terminating his contract with Sevilla in December last year.
He looked very close to joining Union Berlin last month but a deal didn’t materialise in the end.
Everton endured a highly disappointing January transfer window as they failed to add a single player to their ranks.
The Merseyside club were close to landing Arnaut Danjuma after striking a deal with Villarreal. But in a dramatic twist, the attacker went on to join Tottenham Hotspur.
They also targeted a host of other forwards in January, only to fail in their attempts in the end.
Sean Dyche’s side were reportedly ready to spend a huge transfer fee for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher. But the 22-year-old made it clear he wasn’t interested in a move to Goodison Park.
Everton also agreed a fee for Kamaldeen Sulemana but the Ghana international preferred to join Southampton.
Premier League survival unlikely
The Toffees lost Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United in a deal worth up to £45 million. But they failed to reinvest that money by landing a new forward.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth, Leeds United, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all added new recruits to their ranks in their bid to beat the drop.
Sean Dyche is a top manager but the task of keeping Everton in the top-flight looks beyond him.
