kicker and Sky Germany both report that Everton are interested in SC Freiburg attacking midfielder Merlin Röhl, ahead of a potential summer move.
The Premier League side have already held talks with the midfielder’s representatives. Everton manager David Moyes is also familiar with the German youth international having managed against him four times as West Ham manager in the Europa League.
A move in the summer away from the Black Forest is an option, and the sale of Röhl could potentially surpass the fee Freiburg received for Kevin Schade when the winger joined Brentford for €25m. Freiburg are demanding more than €20m.
There is also the possibility that Röhl stays at Freiburg. The 22-year-old has struggled this season, mainly due to injuries, and another year in the South West of Germany would allow him to rebuild his form and consistency as well as further his development before a potential move to England, which is his dream.
Freiburg are expecting a busy summer with Ritsu Doan and Kiliann Sildillia also linked with moves away.
