Everton have a ‘good chance’ of luring Ben Brereton Diaz to Goodison Park if the Blackburn Rovers star opts to head to the Premier League in January, but they are facing stiff competition from Sevilla, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Toffees may have spent more than £70million during the summer window, but boss Frank Lampard will be presented with another opportunity to bolster his squad at the turn of the year.

What’s the latest news involving Brereton Diaz?
Everton were keen to strike a deal for Brereton Diaz ahead of the September 1 deadline and, although he remained with Blackburn, it appears their interest has not gone away.
That is because, according to Football Insider, the Toffees remain in the race to sign the striker after seeing a bid rejected during the final stages of the summer transfer window.
The report suggests Premier League rivals Leeds United and Fulham are also admirers, but Sevilla – who are currently third in a Champions League group which includes Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund – are in pole position for Brereton Diaz’s signature.
It is understood that Championship side Blackburn valued their prised asset at £20million earlier this year, but it is likely that a deal could now be struck for a lower fee because of his contract situation.
Brereton Diaz has rejected fresh terms at Ewood Park and, with his current deal expiring next summer, Crystal Palace are considering a January move.

What has Dean Jones said about Brereton Diaz?
Jones believes there is a strong possibility that Brereton Diaz will join Everton if he opts to swap the Championship for the top flight.
However, the journalist understands that the 23-year-old is mulling over whether to head to Spain amid interest from Sevilla.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “If Brereton Diaz goes into the Premier League, then I think they’ve got as good a chance as anybody.
“But the thing I’m still told to look out for, with Brereton Diaz, is that Sevilla want him and he is aware of that. They feel they’ve got a good chance of signing him.”
Why is Brereton Diaz on Everton’s radar?
Lampard may have forked out £15million to sign Neal Maupay from Brighton & Hove Albion just a matter of months ago, but there is no doubt that Brereton Diaz would offer the Everton chief another exciting option at the top end of the pitch.
The 17-cap Chile international was outstanding last season, finding the back of the net 22 times and registering a further three assists.
Brereton Diaz, who has been described by former boss Tony Mowbray as ‘extraordinary’, showed his true potential and he has made it abundantly clear that he is ready to make the step up from the Championship by getting his name on the scoresheet regularly this term as well.
Statistics show the Blackburn man has averaged more goals and assists than current Everton trio Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Maupay and Salomon Rondon since the campaign got underway, so he would be a shrewd addition to Lampard’s squad.
