Sacha Tavolieri reports that Croatian central defender Hrvoje Smolcic of Eintracht Frankfurt has failed his RSC Anderlecht medical. Smolcic’s persistent knee issues evidently proved to be a deal breaker for the Belgian Pro League side. The 24-year-old’s Bundesliga club will have to find another solution for one of the players on their “strike list”.
Smolcic just returned to the RheinMainAdler following a successful loan stint at LASK Linz. The former Croatia U21 international scored three goals in 21 Austrian Bundesliga appearances last season. There nevertheless remained instances in which Smolcic had to sit out injured.
More issues cropping up in March 2025 led to Smolcic making just three starts in the season’s final eight matchdays. Smolcic made only 11 league appearances for his German parent club during the 2023/24 German Bundesliga campaign.
The former HNK Rijeka academy man’s curren contract with Eintracht runs until 2027. Smolcic’s estimated market value has declined for the third consecutive season. He’s currently valued at €2m.
