Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga (21) has suffered an injury during Wednesday evening’s training session ahead of France’s match against Gibraltar on Saturday.
The former Stade Rennais midfielder suffered the knee injury after making contact with Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé. Camavinga was treated on the field before walking to the sidelines with a limp. He did not complete the session, as reported by L’Équipe.
An opportunity for Warren Zaḯre-Emery?
The first signs, according to L’Équipe, are that the injury is not serious. The first tests were reportedly “reassuring” and images captured by journalists in attendance seemed to show the midfielder telling Didier Deschamps that the knee was “okay.” However, Camavinga’s participation in Saturday’s game in Nice, against Gibraltar is now in doubt. Les Bleus also face Greece on Tuesday, however, with France’s qualification for Euro 2024 already guaranteed, there is nothing on the line during the matches during this international break.
Real Madrid teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni did not make the squad due to injury and Camavinga’s injury now opens up the opportunity for Warren Zaïre-Emery to make his France debut, and maybe even from the start.
