Dramatic U-Turn in Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall Super-Fight Negotiations

The seemingly never-ending saga in the UFC heavyweight division between reigning champion Jon Jones and the division’s interim champion, Tom Aspinall, has taken yet another turn. Since ‘Bones’ defeated Stipe Miocic last November at UFC 309, all of the talk around the heavyweight division has been whether or not he is going to stick around and face the Brit in what Dana White believes will be “the biggest fight in UFC history.”

For weeks now, Jones has taken to social media to document his time out in Thailand, where he is filming essentially what is a Russian version of The Ultimate Fighter, and has been trolling both Aspinall and his fans by claiming that he is retired and is living his best life away from the UFC Octagon. Going off of Jones’ recent social media activity, fans had given up hope of the huge heavyweight unification bout happening, however, following a seminar he hosted just days ago, the reigning heavyweight champion took questions from fans and gave an answer which turned the heads of MMA fans.

Jon Jones Teases There Could Be a Fight Announcement Coming Soon

‘Bones’ spoke to fans following a seminar he hosted in Thailand

After weeks of trolling fans on social media, Jon Jones has seemingly revealed that there has been a significant breakthrough in his negotiations to fight Tom Aspinall for the undisputed UFC heavyweight title. As you may be aware if you have seen Jones’ recent antics on social media, he has been in Thailand for weeks filming the Russian version of The Ultimate Fighter, and just days ago ‘Bones’ hosted a seminar and following the seminar, he took questions from fans, one of which was “When are you fighting Tom?”

Although Jones, in recent months, has almost outright refused to even utter Aspinall’s name, he gave the fan an interesting and somewhat open response, seemingly teasing that there may be an announcement of the heavyweight super-fight in the near future.

Check out what Jones had to say below:

“The UFC, I and Tom, we all got a lot of stuff happening behind the scenes. They’re one of the biggest organisations in sports and right now Tom and I have agreed to wait for the UFC to make their announcements. So I legally can’t really talk about it.”

With Jones claiming that both he and Aspinall are waiting for the UFC to make their announcements, fans are speculating that the fight may now be officially secured for this November at Madison Square Garden in New York, as has been rumoured for many months now.

Since UFC 309, Tom Aspinall and MMA fans have had to put up with Jon Jones’ constant trolling, and now that Jones’ new comments have surfaced and the fight now appears to be close to being announced, it looks like Aspinall is taking his turn to troll. During a recent appearance on Good Guy/Bad Guy, which is hosted by Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, when asked if he and ‘Bones’ were alligned and now booked to fight, Aspinall replied with a big smirk on his face, saying “nah man Jon’s retired, what’re you talking about guys?”

Given the smirk on his face, Aspinall’s comments should be taken with a pinch of salt as he is more than likely trolling and not speaking literally.

Another thing which has got fans talking from Tom Aspinall’s recent appearance on Good Guy/Bad Guy is that the Brit officially confirmed that he has the date and location for his next fight locked in. Although he didn’t confirm exactly who he will be fighting, Aspinall claiming he now knows when and where he is fighting next seems to align perfectly with Jon Jones’ recent comments, where he claimed they are just waiting for the UFC to make their announcements.

With Jones and Aspinall’s comments about having things locked in and waiting for the UFC to announce things coming so close after one another, there has now been a glimmer of hope given to fans that the huge heavyweight showdown may now be officially locked in and is on the verge of being announced after months of endless speculation and social media games.

As mentioned previously, it has been rumoured for months that the targeted date and location for Jones vs Aspinall is November at Madison Square Garden, so an announcement could be right around the corner.
