Both teams enjoyed the frantic fast-paced feel to the game’s opening minutes. Early efforts from Reus and Wolf sandwiched Vitinha’s strike from range. In a matter of minutes PSG came bitterly close to scoring – first Mbappé rounded Kobel but Süle recovered to clear of the line.
The subsequent attack of note would see youngster Bradley Barcola denied by Kobel’s left post. Salih Özcan’s shot on the half hour drew the best out of Donnarumma. The initial save sat up nicely for Adeyemi who should’ve been more precise and accurate. A final outstanding save from Kobel which denied Kolo Muani left many scratching their heads how it was still 0-0.
The second-half would take an entirely different path to the initial 45 minutes when a flurry of goals arrived inside a short spell. BVB struck first through Adeyemi as Füllkrug supplied the crucial pass for the tap in. However, the host’s lead would be extinguished almost instantly – a swift PSG break down the left flank arrived at Barcola. The youngster teed up fellow prodigy Zaire-Emery who squeezed home under Adeyemi’s attempted block.
With all the pressure on PSG entering the final quarter, the Parisians thought they found their second goal through Mbappé. VAR intervention would mute celebrations as the French star was marginally offside. Nothing came for either outfit in the end. Edin Terzić’s side securing the all important point to advance as top seed from the adequately labelled ‘group of death’.
