DFL to restart talks over the resumption of the investor plan this week

According to Sport Bild, talks between the DFL and clubs are set to begin this week over a new revised investor plan after the original was rejected in May.

Talks between the DFL, Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga clubs will take place on Thursday and Monday where they will discuss the possible resumption of introducing investors into the league.

If a clear majority is in favour, the DFL President and Supervisory board will decide on the 14th November for a new round of negotiations to begin on December 7th. If the clubs then vote in favour of the deal with a 2/3 majority, it will mean that the directors of the DFL will have a final mandate meaning if the conditions of the deal are right, it can be concluded without the clubs needing to agree again. The original deal was rejected in May after resistance from smaller Bundesliga clubs as well as clubs in the 2.Bundesliga.

This new deal has made some adjustments. Only six to nine percent of a subsidiary of the DFL that markets the TV rights are to be sold, which would be worth €750m-€1bn. Most of this money would go to the development and growth of the Bundesliga in areas such as digitisation, internationalisation and improved media products. While the clubs will receive one compensation payment for their TV income.

The aim is to bring this new deal into play in the second quarter of 2024 when negotiations begin for the rights for the 2025/26 season. The aim is that this will help to drive up the price of the product.
