A month prior to the World Cup, national coaches are required to submit an extended provisional squad to FIFA. However, the DFB is keeping a low profile when it comes to revealing the players that have made Hansi Flick’s squad list, according to Kicker.
All 32 nations participating in the tournament had to submit a list of up to 55 candidates to FIFA by October 21, of which three goalkeepers and 23 outfield players will be selected from this pool. All coaches had to nominate at least 35 players.
When it comes to naming the players that have made Germany’s provisional squad, the DFB have remained quiet. When asked of Friday, Managing Director Oliver Bierhoff said: “We don’t want to make your work that easy.”
One candidate for Germany this tournament is Niclas Füllkrug. Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Clemens Fritz, said: “I haven’t heard anything but I assume that Niclas will be on this list.” It would appear that the DFB are keeping their cards close to their chest.
Mats Hummels has also been linked with a return to the national team whilst players such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz will have to prove his fitness ahead of the tournament.
