A Sky report published earlier today may potentially shed some light on the surprise announcement from FC Augsburg yesterday that saw former captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw.

The sudden about-face that saw Bundesliga side FC Augsburg re-sign former captain Jeffery Gouweleeuw yesterday may make a bit more sense in the context of a Sky Germany report appearing today involving current squad skipper Ermedin Demirovic. The German pay-TV subscriber reports that the 25-year-old Bosnia & Herzegovina international hopes to move to a larger club this summer.
Demirovic’s sophomore season with the Fuggerstädter has seen him net eight league goals and pocket five assists in 17 league appearances. In the process, the former Freiburg attacker has pumped his estimated market worth up to a career-high €20 million in the latest transfermarkt update. As part of the story quotes current FCA trainer Jess Thorup as being “hopeful” that Demirovic will opt to stay.
If nothing else, Demirovic will certainly seek to secure a pay-raise for himself through the negotiation of a new contract. His present deal in the Fuggerstadt runs through the end of the 2025/26 season and has not been altered since he joining from Freiburg on a free in the summer of 2020. At that time, the striker was considered worth a mere €6 million.
