Dana White Reveals When UFC Will ‘Move on’ From Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall

UFC boss Dana White has given a little more clarity on the Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall saga.

The UFC heavyweight champion, Jones, won the belt when he destroyed Ciryl Gane in 2023, and defended it just the ones when he obliterated Stipe Miocic with a spinning back kick. His greatest challenge in the glamour division is Aspinall, though, who is the interim titleholder in the division and is overdue for a championship shot.

But, so far, Jones has shown reluctance to even entertain the thought of entering the Octagon with Aspinall already inside of it. It has held up the championship landscape at heavyweight, and has made a mockery of the belt, too, considering they could have headlined International Fight Week on the 28th of June at the marquee MMA event of the year.

Speaking on The Jim Rome Show, White provided an update on the situation.

Dana White Provides Update on Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall

It’s time for Jones to put up or shut up

White told host Jim Rome: “Jon Jones has been an interesting human being to deal with since he got here … he’s never been afraid to fight anybody.”

It initially appeared likely that Jones was demanding $30 million from the UFC to fight Aspinall. This is a huge figure for mixed martial arts but is standard in boxing for fights of this magnitude, with Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder earning a similar amount when they fought a second time in Las Vegas at the start of 2020.

The UFC did not balk at Jones’s financial demands, as GIVEMESPORT previously reported, but it appears White is willing to move on quite soon if Jones doesn’t commit by the end of the month.

“We’ll see how this thing plays out in the next couple of weeks, but if we can’t get this done, we’ll move on — quickly. We’ll have answers in the next couple weeks.”

Should Jones refuse to fight Aspinall, then he could still compete in the Octagon — likely against an opponent such as Alex Pereira. However, it’s unclear whether he’d do so as the heavyweight champion, or if the UFC would strip him of the title and instead promote Aspinall to full champ. An Aspinall vs Gane fight has been suggested as back-up.
