Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer: Portuguese star set for talks with Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo will return to England to discuss his future with Manchester United.

According to David Ornstein, it is still unclear if the Portuguese star will resume training with the squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The 37-year-old did not join United’s pre-season tour, taking permission to be away for ‘family reasons’.

Ronaldo has been agitating for a transfer away from Old Trafford after being unconvinced by their prospects ahead of the new campaign.

However, the problem is that top clubs are not interested in Ronaldo. Despite agent Jorge Mendes’ meeting with Todd Boehly, Chelsea declined to make a serious move for the player.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich also declined the chance to sign him. He has only received interest from an unknown Saudi club and Atletico Madrid.

At the moment, it is hard to see any of the top clubs in Europe signing Ronaldo. He is not past it, but he represents a tactical conundrum that most managers would rather not have.

In this press-heavy era of football, pressures and sprints are everything. Managers want forwards who press relentlessly and that is not Ronaldo’s strength.

Ronaldo made the fewest pressures per 90 minutes in the ‘Big Five’ leagues this season (6.2). Despite his 18 goals in the Premier League, many people feel that Ronaldo does not help the overall structure of the team.

Whether this is true remains a debate open to the football world. 18 Premier League goals is a decent return for any player in a single season, much less a 37-year-old. However, Ronaldo achieved the feat.

Erik ten Hag should be able to adapt his team to accommodate the former Real Madrid attacker. The Dutch manager maintained that the star is not for sale. Whether he will stay at United remains to be seen.
