A transfer initially rumored to be in the works yesterday has been quickly confirmed. Borussia Mönchengladbach have landed their preferred replacement for Marcus Thuram. Czech striker Tomas Cvancara joins the Fohlenelf from Sparta Prague. The 22-year-old has signed a new contract good through 2028.
Germany’s preeminent footballing publication, Kicker Magazine, reports that Gladbach have paid a €10.5 million transfer fee for the attacker. The newly capped Czech international arrives on the tailwind of a successful season for both club and country. BMG sporting director Roland Virkus noted that he and his administrative team considered Cvancara an ideal replacement for Thuram.
“It’s great to be here. Borussia Park is a great stadium,” the player himself added in a statement released by the club, “I can’t wait to start properly in training, play here and score goals as well.”
