CM Punk’s Legendary Raw Match with John Cena
The Best in the World has a lot of respect for The Champ
Having locked up as recently as the Elimination Chamber in March, the chemistry between John Cena and CM Punk showed no signs of fading. An iconic pairing, one of their greatest battles came at Money in the Bank in 2011. Winning the WWE Championship on the final night before his contract expired, Punk won in his hometown and ran away with the title.
An encounter that earned the WWE their first five-star match in 14 years, the Best in the World holds a different match of theirs in higher regard. Two years on from Money in the Bank, the duo main-evented Raw in a 27-minute classic. Speaking to Metro, CM Punk opened up on the occasion.
“I had the flu, I had a fever, and I was just f***ing angry … So nobody could tell me anything, I did what I wanted. That’s probably the best match in my career. There was just an energy, and there was a buzz in the building. I think part of that is because I was just fuelled by anger at that point in my career. It got me out of bed.”
