AEW wrestler and former WWE Superstar, Chris Jericho, is among the notable names to have donated to Syko Stu’s GoFundMe, as he recovers from Raja Jackson’s assault at a wrestling event.
The GoFundMe has so far raised over $60,000 towards the wrestler’s recovery, with a $110,000 goal. Jericho’s incredible donation tops the list, which also includes YouTuber Justin Whang, AEW wrestler Ariya Daivari, and former NXT star Cezar Bononi.
What Happened to Syko Stu
Syko Stu, real name Stuart Smith, suffered terrible injuries at the hands of Raja Jackson at the 23rd of August KnokX Pro event. Jackson, son of former UFC star Rampage Jackson, was scheduled to be a part of the night’s show. However, after being hit with a drink by Smith in a planned work, Jackson decided to punch the veteran-turned-wrestler for real.
Entering the ring, Jackson slammed Smith to the canvas MMA-style before delivering a flurry of punches to the unconscious wrestler’s skull. The company’s other wrestlers managed to bring the assault to a close, but not before Smith was left choking on his own blood and teeth.
Disturbing footage from Jackson’s Kick live stream saw the 25-year-old plan the attack, and nonchalantly react to being informed of his victim’s condition. His Kick account was suspended due to the incident, and there have been widespread calls for Jackson’s arrest, with the LAPD reportedly investigating the situation.
Following the assault, KickX Pro’s affiliation with the WWE ID programme has been severed. Additionally, wrestlers involved with the situation have claimed that the attack was premeditated and that the company has encouraged those involved to avoid cooperating with the police.
The wrestling community and world have rallied to support Smith, who is currently in a stable but critical condition. His family launched the GoFundMe campaign to cover medical expenses and recovery support for the veteran, who turned to wrestling as a coping mechanism for his PTSD.
Chris Jericho’s Donation to Syko Stu’s GoFundMe
Jericho has often been seen donating to fundraisers when a wrestler or their family needs money, regardless of their stature, having been spotted in the donation lists for medical bills and funeral costs over the years.
The wrestling legend’s incredible donation of $2,500 will go a long way in supporting Smith and his family, as he hopes to make a full recovery and return to the ring in the future.
The former AEW World Champion, meanwhile, may be departing the company at the end of his contract, as rumours of a return to WWE continue to swirl.
