Chelsea sign teenage star Kendry Paez

Chelsea have secured the signature of teenage midfielder Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle for around €20 million.

The Ecuadorian prodigy will join the Blues after celebrating his 18th birthday in 2025. The 16-year-old has already established himself as one of the most promising and creative young talents in South America.

Paez has garnered attention with his exceptional dribbling skills and the ability to unlock defences with his vision.

His remarkable talents were evident when he found the back of the net on his senior debut for Independiente del Valle.

Following the strike, he became the youngest debutant and scorer in the Ecuadorian top flight.

Throughout the season, Paez has made six appearances for his club. He made his continental debut in a notable 2-1 Copa Libertadores victory against Corinthians in May.

His impact extends beyond club football. He shone brightly during the Under-17 Copa America, captaining his country and contributing two goals and six assists.

Also, Paez carried that impressive form into the Under-20 World Cup this summer. He featured in all four of Ecuador’s matches, scoring once and providing three assists.

Moreover, Paez’s potential was recognised on the global stage when he was named the standout talent at the 2022 Next Generation Trophy.

The tournament in Austria showcased youth talents from prominent clubs worldwide. Paez’s performance at the showpiece solidified his reputation as a player destined for greatness.

Chelsea’s acquisition of Paez demonstrates their commitment to nurturing young talent and building for the future.

The club’s scouting network has identified a player with immense potential. But he cannot contribute to their season now.

With his exceptional skills and track record at such a young age, Chelsea hope he will develop and flourish into a superstar for them.

In addition to Paez, Chelsea will push to sign defensive midfielders for Mauricio Pochettino.

They are trying to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
