Chelsea want to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham this summer despite spending over £500 million in the summer and winter transfer windows, according to The Telegraph,
Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali admire the England international midfielder after watching him at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. They are not giving up the chase easily.
Even though there are doubts about whether Chelsea can qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, they want to enter the race for the former Birmingham City star.
However, Chelsea acknowledge that they are behind their rivals in the race for Bellingham. They know that signing him from Borussia Dortmund will not be easy.
But the Blues have been taking steps and establishing contacts with Bellingham’s entourage, believing they can make a play.
Chelsea already broke the English transfer record by signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. But apparently, it will not stop them from pursuing more big-money midfield signings.
Real Madrid are still the favourites to sign Bellingham, and Los Blancos are preparing for a summer swoop. He is their top target.
Manchester City and Liverpool are also interested in Bellingham, with both clubs looking to refresh their midfield options ahead of next season.
Dortmund will demand around €150 million for the brilliant Bellingham, who has established himself as one of the finest midfield talents since moving to Germany.
Bellingham has been shining in the Bundesliga and the Champions League for Dortmund. He has four goals and one assist in five Champions League appearances this season. In the Bundesliga, he has four goals and four assists.
Bellingham was impeccable for the Three Lions at the World Cup as they reached the quarterfinal, where France eliminated them.
BVB looks resigned to losing Bellingham this summer, but they will try to get as much money as possible. They will encourage a bidding war for him, and it’ll be interesting to see where he ends up.
Bellingham will have two opportunities to impress his English admirers soon. Dortmund take on Chelsea for their Champions League round-of-16 showdown this month.
