Chelsea ‘reached out to representatives’ of Man Utd star at Stamford Bridge – GiveMeSport

Chelsea have ‘reached out’ to Alejandro Garnacho’s representatives ahead of potentially looking to lure the Manchester United starlet to Stamford Bridge, journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport.

Head coach Graham Potter will be handed an opportunity to bolster his Blues squad when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

Chelsea transfer news – Alejandro Garnacho

According to Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, Garnacho’s representatives have been approached by Chelsea after they have set their sights on taking the winger to the capital.

But the report suggests the Blues’ enquiry did not go to plan as they were informed that the 18-year-old intends to sign fresh terms with Manchester United and, if that does not come to fruition, he will opt to head overseas.

Chelsea are not the only Premier League side looking to tempt Garnacho away from Old Trafford as Arsenal are also keeping tabs on his situation, while Real Madrid and Barcelona are keen to lure him to La Liga.

There is uncertainty over the Argentina under-20 international’s long-term future as his Manchester United contract is due to expire next summer, although talks over an extended deal are progressing.

Garnacho could be in line to earn £50,000-per-week if he puts pen-to-paper and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently told GiveMeSport that the Red Devils are optimistic of reaching an agreement.

What has Simon Phillips said about Garnacho?

Phillips understands that Chelsea have been eager to take advantage of Garnacho’s contract situation by striking a deal which would see him head to west London.

However, the journalist is aware that the talented teenager’s representatives insisted a move to Stamford Bridge is not of interest.

Phillips told GiveMeSport: “It’s more of an opportunity. Chelsea saw the contract situation with Garnacho and they reached out to his representatives.

“They mentioned they’d be interested in signing him, but his representatives were quite clear that his desire is to sign a contract with Manchester United.

“If he can’t do that, he is expected to move abroad. That’s what his representatives said to Chelsea.”

Would Garnacho be a good signing for Chelsea?

It has been a breakthrough campaign for Garnacho as he has racked up four goal contributions in nine Manchester United appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

He also rates favourably when compared to Raheem Sterling, who moved to Chelsea in a £47.5million deal during the summer.

That is because FBref statistics show Garnacho has averaged more goals and shots on target per 90 minutes than the England international since the season got underway.

Manchester United teammate Scott McTominay has described the Madrid-born ace as ‘talented’ and ‘a hell of a footballer’, which emphasises that he is highly-rated within the Old Trafford dressing room.

While the Red Devils are not in a strong negotiating position thanks to Garnacho’s contract situation, Chelsea should pounce and attempt to persuade him to head to Stamford Bridge.
