Chelsea now ‘aware’ 198-goal striker could be available at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have been ‘made aware’ of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy’s situation this summer with the striker considering whether to leave the club this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Thomas Tuchel has overseen a dramatic summer at Stamford Bridge but there remains plenty of time to strengthen ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest transfer news from Chelsea?

Four new signings have made their way to Cobham so far this summer in the form of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwumeika and Gabriel Slonina, taking their spending beyond the £100 million mark.

They were deals that needed to be struck, however. The end of last season saw both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave on free transfers while Romelu Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan on a season-long loan.

It is that leading striker role that remains to be filled at Stamford Bridge. Armando Broja has returned to the club following his season-long loan with Southampton, but Chelsea continue to be linked with a range of attacking targets, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Another name that has emerged as a potential suitor is Leicester legend Vardy. As reported by 90min, Chelsea are among the clubs monitoring the veteran goal machine’s situation.

The 35-year-old has a year left on his contract and, having already scored 198 goals across his professional career, is now considering his options according to Jones.

What has Jones said about the Vardy situation?

Jones understands that the former Fleetwood forward is pondering whether to leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

The transfer insider says that Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and those in charge at Stamford Bridge have been made aware of the situation and are monitoring it amid their striker search.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Vardy has got a situation at Leicester. He’s considering whether to potentially leave in this window or not. At the moment, there isn’t an offer on the table from Chelsea, but they have been made aware of the fact he might be available, given the fact he’s only got a year left of his contract, and they need a striker.”

Would Vardy be a good signing for Chelsea?

It is easy to see why Vardy is attracting interest from Chelsea given his experience in the top flight and his outstanding goal record.

At 35, it is unlikely to be much more than a short-term fix while the club perhaps assess more high-profile names, but it could be a sensible transfer. He currently earns £160,000 per week at Leicester and with the Foxes under pressure to adhere to financial fair play rules, a cut-price deal could easily be on the cards.
