Chelsea are ‘definitely’ considering a move for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha ahead of deadline day at Stamford Bridge, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
Thomas Tuchel has overseen an incredibly busy few months of business in west London but could still add further to his squad ahead of the September 1 cut-off.
What is the latest news on Zaha?
According to 90Min, the 29-year-old was being targeted by the Blues at the start of August as Tuchel looked to bolster his attacking options.
The report claims that Chelsea turned to Zaha after missing out on a deal for Raphinha, who joined Barcelona from Leeds earlier in the summer.
It is also understood that Jose Mourinho is interested in adding the Ivory Coast international to his Roma side.
Transfer insider Dean Jones has hinted to The Done Deal Show that Zaha could be a target for Arsenal later in the window.
Jones reports that the Gunners are considering a move for Zaha alongside the likes of Yeremy Pino and Pedro Neto.
What has Phillips said on a potential deal?
Phillips understands that Zaha is definitely being considered as an option at Stamford Bridge ahead of the transfer window closing.
The journalist claims he is a player greatly admired by Tuchel and could be attainable with just one-year remaining on his current Selhurst Park deal.
Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “Zaha is definitely on the list and he’s a player that they have spoken about internally. Tuchel likes him and he will be more attainable in the sense of a fee because he’s only got one year left on his contract. So I think that Zaha could still come into play, but as the days go on it becomes less and less likely.”
Would Zaha be a good signing for Chelsea?
This could prove to be a very shrewd move for the Blues, with the versatile forward previously being described as ‘world class’ by former Fulham manager Scott Parker.
Zaha knows the Premier League inside-out having made 281 appearances in the division and scored 64 goals, taking his career tally to 86.
Valued at £34 million by Transfermarkt, Chelsea would have the chance to land the £130,000 per-week star for a cut-price deal given his contract situation.
The Times reported that Zaha was looking to leave Palace a year ago as he looked to compete for major silverware.
Having won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in the past 18 months, as well as reaching the finals of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, this is something Chelsea can certainly tempt the player with.
