Chelsea are definitely still in the market to sign Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
Thomas Tuchel has overseen a busy summer at Stamford Bridge, with over £160 million spent on new signings already, but there remains time to strengthen further.
What is the latest Aubameyang news?
According to the Guardian, Chelsea are still pushing to sign the 33-year-old forward from the Camp Nou before the deadline as they look to bolster their striking options.
It has previously been reported that the Blues were in the midst of advanced talks over a move for Aubameyang, according to Sky Sports, with personal terms agreed.
The report adds that discussions were progressing with Barcelona over a transfer fee with a deal of between £15 million and £25 million on the cards.
However, Chelsea face competition from fellow Premier League giants Manchester United, with Di Marzio claiming the Red Devils see the Gabon international as the man to lead their attack.
Tuchel remains in need of striking reinforcements despite already spending £50 million on Raheem Sterling.
Since the end of last season, Romelu Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan on loan and Timo Werner has been re-signed by RB Leipzig, leaving space for a striker at Stamford Bridge.
What has Sheth said on a potential deal?
Sheth claims that Barcelona are open to striking an agreement after Aubameyang was left as an unused substitute for Sunday’s clash with Real Valladolid.
The Sky Sports reporter understands Chelsea remain interested while United are continuing to monitor the situation.
Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s clear that Barcelona do want to do business. Aubameyang was an unused substitute on Sunday. Chelsea are still definitely in the market to bring him in. United, as I mentioned before, are keeping an eye on his situation.”
Would Aubameyang be a good signing for Chelsea?
There is no doubt the striker would have little trouble adapting to the rigours of the Premier League, having already scored 63 goals in 128 appearances in the division.
In total, Aubameyang has hit the back of the net on 299 occasions, with an extra 30 on top from his international exploits.
Perhaps most importantly, he is a player Tuchel will be able to get the best out of, having scored 79 times in 95 appearances under the German at Borussia Dortmund.
While his signing could be a short-term solution, there may be few better options available to the Blues this summer.
